Anniston Community Health Survey (ACHS)
Anniston is a small city in Calhoun County, Alabama, with a history of heavy metals production and chemical manufacturing. From 1929 through 1971, the former Monsanto facility, one of only two such U.S. production plants, produced polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Releases of PCBs from the facility resulted in environmental contamination and community health concerns, which ultimately led to litigation and settlement in court.
