Toxicologic Evaluation

Introduction to the Section

Suppose that in the early stages of a public health assessment of a site near your home, the health assessor determined that

  • people in your community are coming in contact with chemicals from the site

    and

  • further evaluation is needed to determine whether the chemicals that people are contacting could make them sick.

You’d probably wonder what’s involved in this further evaluation.

This further evaluation, called a toxicologic evaluation, involves estimating the amount of the chemical that enters the body and considering additional data about health effects associated with the chemical.
