Overdose affects individuals, families, and communities, and there is an urgent need to support overdose prevention at the local level. The goal of OD2A: Limiting Overdose through Collaborative Actions in Localities (OD2A: LOCAL) is to use data to drive action steps that reduce fatal and non-fatal overdoses in communities as fast as possible, with a primary focus on opioids, stimulants, and polysubstance use involving opioids and/or stimulants.

Funded jurisdictions will build a strong public health and public safety infrastructure that addresses health equity and strengthens communities to prevent drug-related harms and supports recovery-oriented systems of care. To succeed, OD2A: LOCAL interventions require funded recipients to address the needs of people who are at increased risk for overdose, populations that are underserved by overdose prevention and treatment programs and engage people with lived experience in their design and evaluation.
