TATFAR Institutions Meet for a Policy Dialogue

TATFAR institutions gathered by video on September 27, 2017, to discuss high-level strategy, policy, and regulatory aspects of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Hosted by the European Commission’s Directorate-General Health and Food Safety, AMR policy advisors from the United States, Canada, Norway, and the European Union focused the discussion on ways to work effectively in a multi-level system. Multi-level systems often have a local, state or provincial, and federal or multi-national components, which can make implementing solutions to AMR more challenging because the solutions must meet the needs of the various components. TATFAR institutions also discussed how TATFAR partners are working across the various sectors that AMR impacts, such as animal and human health.

Presentations shared at the meeting included:

• Pan-Canadian Framework and Approach to Antimicrobial Resistance, presented by the Public Health Agency of Canada
• Norwegian Policies to Address Antimicrobial Resistance, presented by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health – Norwegian Veterinary Institute
• The Office on Pandemics and Emerging Threats: Antimicrobial Resistance, presented by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
• The New EC Action Plan against Antimicrobial Resistance, presented by the European Commission – Directorate General for Health and Food Safety
