What to know
Health professionals, researchers, and others might find information on the underlying algorithms used in family health history risk assessment tools helpful. The algorithms for the My Family Health Portrait (MFHP) web-based tool and the MFHP: Cancer app, available for iOS and Android, are provided on the following pages. The hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, colorectal cancer, and heart disease algorithms assess risk based only on family health history and do not account for other factors that affect risk, such as age, body mass index, eating habits, physical activity, smoking, and alcohol use.
Algorithms
- Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (MFHP: Cancer) This page provides the algorithm for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer for the MFHP: Cancer app, available for iOS and Android. This algorithm assesses risk based only on family health history and does not account for other factors that affect risk, such as age, body mass index, physical activity, and alcohol use.
- Hereditary Colorectal (Colon) Cancer (MFHP: Cancer) This page provides the algorithm for hereditary colorectal (colon) cancer for the My Family Health Portrait (MFHP): Cancer app, available for iOS and Android. This algorithm assesses risk based only on family health history and does not account for other factors that affect risk, such as age, body mass index, eating habits, physical activity, smoking, and alcohol use.
- Hereditary Heart Disease (My Family Health Portrait Web-Based Tool) This page provides the algorithm for hereditary heart disease for the My Family Health Portrait (MFHP) web-based tool. This algorithm assesses risk based only on family health history and does not account for other factors that affect risk, such as age, body mass index, eating habits, physical activity, smoking, and alcohol use.
- Diabetes (My Family Health Portrait Web-Based Tool) This page provides the algorithm for diabetes for the My Family Health Portrait (MFHP) web-based tool. This algorithm includes additional risk factors for diabetes such as age, sex, and body mass index.
