On September 29, 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) along with other public health and medical groups kicked off the 2016-2017 flu vaccine campaign at a telebriefing held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Members of the public and health care professionals were urged to follow the CDC’s recommendation for everyone age six months and older to be vaccinated against influenza each year. Former CDC Director Tom Frieden, M.D., M.P.H. presented vaccination coverage estimates from the 2015-2016 influenza season, which were released online, and received a flu vaccine.
