History of CFA
The Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics (CFA) was created to improve the nation’s ability to prepare for and respond to infectious disease threats using data, modeling, and analytics.
January, 2021:
A memo to create the National Center Epidemic Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics is established with the National Security Memorandum #1 (Section 5B).
February, 2021
The American Rescue Plan is passed. Section 2404 outlines funding for data modernization and a new forecasting center.
August, 2021:
CFA leadership convenes and begins work.
November-December, 2021
Omicron variant response: CFA works with academic partners to assemble models anticipating the omicron wave. CFA warns government leaders and the public.
April, 2022
CFA official launch.
