Stopping Measles in its Tracks

CDC and partners work 24/7 to rapidly contain disease outbreaks, ensuring that they do not spread around the world.

In April 2016, CDC analyzed data from disease surveillance systems to identify public health threats in Sierra Leone.

The team found that there had been over 4,000 cases of measles since the start of the year. Measles is a highly contagious and deadly disease, especially for children.

CDC took quick action, helping vaccinate over 2.8 million children against the disease and continues to monitor for new outbreaks.
