Tanzania Frontline Field Epidemiology And Laboratory Training Program (TFELTP)

The three-month TFELTP Frontline course prepares public health workers to detect and respond to health threats at the local and community level. It was launched in 2015 through a partnership between the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Tanzania’s Ministry of Health, Community, Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, and the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency.

Regional Locations of Frontline Graduates:

• Regions with 7-10 graduates: Kaskazini-Pemba, Kaskazini-Unguja, Zanzibar South and Central
• Regions with 11-15 graduates: Kusini-Pemba, Kilimanjaro, Tanga, Shinyanga, Iringa, Songwe
• Regions with 16-20 graduates: Kagera, Mwanza, Geita, Simiyu, Kigoma, Tabora, Singida, Dodoma, Manyara, Katavi, Rukwa, Mbeya, Morogoro, Dar-Es-Salaam, Njombe, Lindi, Ruvuma
• Regions with 21-26 graduates: Mara, Arusha, Pwani, Mtwara, Zanzibar West

• 8,192 Weekly surveillance reports
• 1,536 Health facilities visited and data quality audits
• 1,024 Problem identification and analyses
• 17 Outbreak identifications and investigations

100% of program graduates are still working in the health system today.
