Map: International Co-circulation of Novel and Seasonal Influenza
(As of July 28, 2009; posted July 31, 2009, 11:00 AM ET)

This is a map of the world that shows the co-circulation of novel influenza A (H1N1) and seasonal influenza viruses. Seven countries are featured, including Canada, Brazil, Chile, England, South Africa, Australia (New South Wales) and New Zealand. For each of these countries, there is a pie chart that shows the percentage of laboratory confirmed influenza cases that have tested positive for either novel H1N1 flu or other influenza subtypes. Other influenza subtypes are being reported more commonly in the countries within the Southern Hemisphere because the flu season has already started there. South Africa and New South Wales, Australia have an asterisk next to them because the seasonal influenza strains that are circulating in these countries are mostly H3 subtype influenza viruses.
