Notice of Funding Opportunity CDC-RFA-DP-23-0002, School-Based Interventions to Promote Equity and Improve Health, Academic Achievement, and Well-Being of Students


Description


The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Healthy Schools announces the availability of fiscal year 2023 funds under a new 5-year cooperative agreement, CDC-RFA-DP-23-0002 [PDF – 2 MB], School-Based Interventions to Promote Equity and Improve Health, Academic Achievement, and Well-Being of Students.  The purpose of this 5-year cooperative agreement is to protect and improve the health and well-being of school-age children in underserved and disproportionately affected communities.  Recipients will use the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model to:

  • Establish key partnerships to support school health programs.
  • Promote dissemination and implementation of CDC school health guidelines, tools, and resources through professional development and technical assistance.
  • Use action planning to implement physical activity, school nutrition, and school health services policies, practices, and programs within state and local education agencies, schools, and out-of-school time settings.

Expected outcomes to be achieved include:

  • Increase in the numbers of schools with an action plan based on the completion of CDC’s School Health Index.
  • Increased implementation of Comprehensive School Health Activity Programs.
  • Increased school nutrition and food security policies and practices.
  • Increased school-based health services that support students with chronic health conditions.
  • Increased physical activity, healthy dietary behaviors, and self-management of chronic conditions among students.

Funded recipients will provide support through professional development and technical assistance, dissemination, partnerships, and implementation.

Expected outcomes to be achieved by the end of the 5-year period of performance include:

  • Increased use of CDC and other evidence-based tools and resources.
  • Increased adoption and implementation of evidence-based school health policies, practices, and programs among state education agencies, districts, schools, and out-of-school time programs.
  • Expansion of school-based mental health and health services.

Optional Letter of Intent


The Letter of Intent (LOI) deadline is January 12, 2023. This is requested, but it is optional. The purpose of the LOI is to allow CDC program staff to estimate the number of applications and plan for their review.
