Executive Summary

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announces the availability of fiscal year 2021 funds for a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to support integrated viral hepatitis surveillance and prevention programs in states and large cities in the United States. This program will support core viral hepatitis outbreak response, surveillance, and prevention activities (Components 1 and 2, required), and special projects for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment related to the infectious disease consequences of drug use (Component 3, optional). The Infectious Disease and the Opioid Crisis initiative supports multiple components of NOFO PS21-2103.

Purpose

Priorities for this cooperative agreement are to improve surveillance for viral hepatitis in states and large cities, including outbreak detection, investigation and control; facilitate state and large city viral hepatitis elimination planning; and increase access to hepatitis B and C testing, and prevention and treatment services (e.g., vaccination and treatment services provided in high-impact settings, such as hospital emergency departments and syringe services programs (SSPs), and among high-burden populations). An additional optional component funds comprehensive, outcome-focused approaches to preventing infections associated with injection drug use, reducing overdose deaths, and linking people to substance use disorder treatment.

Eligibility Criteria

This NOFO provides full and open competition and the following entities are eligible: all state governments or their bona fide agents (including the District of Columbia), county governments or their bona fide agents, city or township governments, and special district governments who have the responsibility, authority, and ability to enforce laws, rules, or regulations pertaining to collecting and reporting of viral hepatitis surveillance data and those that have coordinated jurisdictional-wide authority for viral hepatitis strategic planning for prevention and control activities at the state and local levels.
