20th National Conference on Chronic Disease Prevention and Control: Cultivating Healthy Communities

What:

The 20th National Conference on Chronic Disease Prevention and Control will focus on innovations in science, policy, community interventions, health marketing, and information technology that support healthy lifestyles and cultivate healthy communities. The conference is sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Association of Chronic Disease Directors, Directors of Health Promotion and Education, and Prevention Research Centers.

MONDAY, February 23, 2009

9:15-10:15 a.m. — Keynote Address: Creating Communities of Opportunity for Everyone, presented by Angela Glover Blackwell, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, PolicyLink

11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. — 2009 Fries Prize for Improving Health Award, presented to Dr. Alfred Sommer, Dean Emeritus and Professor, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

4:00-5:30 p.m. — Debate and Dialogue Sessions: Two concurrent panel discussions titled, "Health Reform: Act Now and Make a Difference" and "What Can We Do about the Effects of Food Advertising on Childhood Obesity?" featuring panelists from non-profit organizations, the business sector and national agencies sharing their perspective on these critical public health topics.

TUESDAY, February 24, 2009

9:00-10:15 a.m. — Keynote Address: Going Green, Getting Healthy: Searching for the Sweet Spot, presented by Dr. Howard Frumkin, Director, National Center for Environmental Health, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and Adam Werbach, Founder and CEO, Act Now and Saatchi & Saatchi S Advertising

3:30-5:00 p.m. — Debate and Dialogue Sessions: Two concurrent panel discussions titled, "Addressing the Social Determinants of Health and Achieving Health Equity" and "Health Care Delivery in the 21st Century: Is the Medical Home Model Ready for Prime Time?" featuring public health leaders representing academic institutions, state health departments and national and international health organizations.
