Childhood Abuse Linked with Adult Chronic Diseases
To cope, children adopt behaviors that harm long-term health

What: A news conference to announce results of a study showing that many of the most common causes of death and disability in the United States -- heart disease, cancer, chronic lung and liver diseases, and injuries -- are strongly linked to emotional abuse in childhood.
Who: Officials from Kaiser Permanente, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Emory University, and the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center will present findings from their research, which will be published in the May 1998 issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
