CDC to Host Conference on Public Health Preparedness for Radiation Emergencies

WHAT

Preparing the public health and clinician workforce for radiological and nuclear terrorism incidents is a critical need in our time. To meet the need for mass casualty education and emergency response planning resources, the Radiation Studies Branch in the National Center for Environmental Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will sponsor a national conference on public health preparedness for radiation emergencies.

WHEN

WHO

The conference will focus on radiation emergency topics that will be of interest to State and Local Public Health Planners and Emergency Coordinators, Radiation Control Directors, Emergency Service Clinicians, Volunteer Managers and Emergency Response Volunteers, Emergency Managers, First Responders, First Responders and Risk Communicators.

WHY

The goals of the conference are:

  • To provide a forum for conference participants to discuss the current state of radiation emergency preparedness, including gaps and barriers, at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • To Provide a forum for conference participants to share promising practices, lessons learned, and practical applications to enhance the planning for, response to, and recovery from radiation emergencies.
  • To create a professional network of public health professionals and other stakeholders invested in advancing the field of radiation emergency preparedness.
