Background
An agenda for the meeting can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/acip/. The agenda will include three votes: considerations for use of meningococcal conjugate vaccine MenACWY-CRM in infants and young toddlers at increased risk for meningococcal disease; the 2014 Child/Adolescent Immunization Schedule; and the 2014 Adult Immunization Schedule. Both the child/adolescent and adult immunization schedules are updated annually. The 2014 adult immunization schedule incorporates changes approved by the ACIP during the 2013 calendar year.
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) consists of 15 experts in fields associated with immunization who have been selected by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide advice and guidance to the Secretary and the Assistant Secretary for Health, and the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on control of vaccine-preventable diseases. The Committee develops written recommendations for use of vaccines that are licensed in the United States; considerations include age for vaccine administration, number of doses and dosing interval, safety issues, and precautions and contraindications.
Special Note
Reporters who wish to attend the meeting in person must send RSVP to Jamila Jones, press officer, CDC's Division of Public Affairs, at jhoward2@cdc.gov or contact CDC’s main press office at 404-639-3286 by noon on Tuesday, October 22.
