What
CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) – better known as CDC’s disease detective program – will hold its annual conference May 2-5 in Atlanta. The event showcases EIS investigations conducted over the past year. CDC disease detectives were among the first to respond to the Zika outbreak. They also fought health threats such as overdoses from opioids and illicit cannabis products, sexually transmitted diseases, injury, violence, hospital associated infections, foodborne illnesses, and chronic diseases. The EIS conference covers a wide range of health topics and gives reporters the opportunity to speak with the first responders protecting the public’s health.
When
May 2, 2016 – May 5, 2016
Where
Crowne Plaza Ravinia Hotel, 4355 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Atlanta, GA 30346.
Background:
EIS is the world’s premier public-health fellowship. During their training in this unique two-year post-doctoral fellowship in applied epidemiology, physicians and other health professionals serve as EIS officers on the front lines of public health, protecting Americans and the global community as “boots on the ground” epidemiologists. Since 1951, more than 3,500 EIS officers have responded to international and domestic health threats. EIS alumni have gone on to become CDC directors; leading CDC scientists; acting surgeons general; WHO assistant directors general, regional directors, and country directors; public health and medical school faculty and deans; city health commissioners; and state epidemiologists. Others are leaders in industry, foundations, nongovernmental organizations, and the media.
