A CDC final investigation update of a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to pre-cut melon has been posted: https://www.cdc.gov/salmonella/adelaide-06-18/index.html. This outbreak appears to be over.
Updates:
- There were a total of 77 ill people reported from 9 states, including 36 who were hospitalized.
- No deaths were reported.
- The last illness started on July 2, 2018.
- Information on fruit and vegetable safety can be found here: https://www.cdc.gov/features/foodsafetyquiz/index.html.
- In general, CDC recommends that consumers, restaurants, and retailers choose and handle fruit safely to help prevent foodborne illnesses.
- Wash hands and food preparation surfaces before and after preparing fruit.
- Refrigerate pre-cut fruit at 40ºF or colder.
