Key Points:
- As of September 5, 2018, this outbreak appears to be over.
- CDC, public health and regulatory officials in several states, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigated a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to Spring Pasta Salad purchased at Hy-Vee grocery stores.
- A total of 101 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella were reported from 10 states. Twenty-five people were hospitalized. No deaths were reported.
- Illnesses in this outbreak started on dates ranging from June 21, 2018, to August 7, 2018.
- On July 16, 2018, Hy-Vee, Inc. removed Spring Pasta Salad products from all of its stores.
- On July 17, 2018, Hy-Vee, Inc. recalled its Spring Pasta Salad because it might be contaminated with Salmonella.
- Any recalled pasta salad would now be expired.
- People get sick from Salmonella 12 to 72 hours after swallowing the germ and experience diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps.
- Most people recover within a week, but some illnesses can last longer and be more severe.
