CDC Food Safety Alert: Outbreak of Listeria Infections Linked to Pork Products Produced by Long Phung Food Products

CDC advises consumers and retailers not to eat, serve, or sell pork products produced by Long Phung Food Products, which is linked to a multistate outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections. More information can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/listeria/outbreaks/porkproducts-11-18/index.html
Key Points:
- There have been four people infected with the outbreak strain of Listeria reported from four states (Louisiana, Michigan, Tennessee, and Texas)
- All four people have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
- Listeria isolates were collected from ill people on dates ranging from July 1, 2017, to October 24, 2018.
- On November 20, 2018, Long Phung Food Products in Houston, TX recalled ready-to-eat pork products because they might be contaminated with Listeria bacteria.
- Visit the USDA-FSIS website for a full list of recalled ready-to-eat pork patty rolls. This list may be updated as more information becomes available.
- This investigation is ongoing, and CDC will provide updates when more information is available.
Advice to Consumers:
- Consumers who have recalled pork products in their homes should not eat them and should throw them away or return them to the store for a refund.
- Recalled products are labeled with establishment number “EST. 13561” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
- Restaurants and retailers should not serve or sell recalled Long Phung Food products and should check food storage and freezers for them.
- If you develop symptoms of a Listeria infection (https://www.cdc.gov/listeria/definition.html after eating recalled pork products contact a healthcare provider and tell them you ate recalled pork products. This is especially important if you are pregnant, age 65 or older, or have a weakened immune system.
