In the United States, diabetes affects about 1 in 10 Americans, with over 38 million adults diagnosed. It is the 8th leading cause of death in the United States. Around 1 in 3, or an estimated 98 million adults aged 18 or older, have prediabetes, and more than 80% of them are unaware of their condition. Furthermore, $1 out of every $4 in U.S. healthcare costs is spent on caring for people with diabetes and the total annual cost of diabetes is $413 billion, making it the most expensive chronic condition in our nation.
