Each year in the United States, about one in ten infants (about 380,000) are born prematurely and about 3,500 are lost to sudden unexpected infant death (SUID). Maternal mortality persists at unacceptable levels – in 2024 there were 18.4 pregnancy-related deaths per 100,000 live births. More than 80% of these deaths are preventable.
