Life Table Analysis System (LTAS)
Life Table Analysis System (LTAS) software is no longer supported or provided by CDC/NIOSH. However, most functionality can now be found within the R package ‘LTASR’ available through the Comprehensive R Archive Network (CRAN): https://CRAN.R-project.org/package=LTASR.
For more information, please see Introducing LTASR, a new R package based on the NIOSH Life Table Analysis System.
If you have questions about LTAS, please contact nioshltas@cdc.gov.
LTAS Background
NIOSH developed LTAS in the 1970s. LTAS analyzes cohorts defined by occupational exposures. LTAS first constructs rates by age, sex, race, calendar time, and duration or level of exposure.
LTAS then compares the observed rates for the cohort under study with comparison rates from a referent population. Rates are calculated as observed events, typically deaths, divided by person-time at risk in the interval. These rates are then compared to either external population rates or internally across an exposure of interest.
