December 6, 2017: A Day to Honor Miners
On December 6, National Miner's Day, we reflect on miners and the difficult work they do. Miners draw from the earth the raw resources that form the building blocks of society as we know it. Mine workers toil long hours in adverse conditions—both underground and on the surface—to draw out the metals, minerals, and materials that make our lives possible, but the work is hard and, at times, dangerous.
NIOSH actively supports all miners and strives each day to eliminate mining fatalities, injuries, and illnesses through research and prevention.
