Mining Feature: NIOSH Researchers Win Noise Control Award
Monday, September 24, 2018
Three members of the NIOSH Mining Program's Workplace Health Branch recently won a significant award in the field of noise control.
Hugo Camargo, Amanda Azman, and Lynn Alcorn received the 2018 Martin Hirschorn IAC Best Paper Award on Aug. 29 during the INTER-NOISE conference in Chicago.
IAC—formerly referred to as the Industrial Acoustics Company—was an occupational noise control firm for which Hirschorn served as a principal. The company later changed its name to the current acronym.
Their winning publication, Development of Noise Controls for Longwall Shearer Cutting Drums, was selected from a pool of national and international manuscripts submitted to the Institute of Noise Control Engineering. The paper’s success against such potent competition speaks to the rigor and quality of research produced by NIOSH scientists. This recognition garners great respect in the international noise control engineering community, and the NIOSH Mining community is proud of the team’s achievement.
Congratulations to Hugo, Amanda, and Lynn!
