Modified Engine Stand
ERGONOMIC INTERVENTIONS IN SHIPYARDS
Hazard: Ship door assemblies weigh several hundred pounds. Frames and doors must constantly be flipped over to work on both sides of the object. The moves are often performed manually with the assist of overhead hoists. Workers may stress their backs, legs and arms with this manual material handling.
Solution: At one shipyard standard engine stands were modified to accommodate ship doors and frames so that they can be rotated more easily, minimizing the manual material handling (see photos).
