BACKGROUND
The International Symposium to Advance Total Worker Health is a NIOSH-sponsored public conference focused solely on advancing Total Worker Health (TWH) research, practice, policies, and programs. The TWH approach integrates workplace interventions that protect the safety and health of workers with activities that advance their overall well-being. NIOSH has partnered with over 40 organizations from labor, industry, and academia, including the NIOSH-funded Centers of Excellence for Total Worker Health.
The themes for the 2018 Symposium include a broad range of topics related to the core values of Total Worker Health: safer work, healthier work design, and better defining and understanding worker well-being. Presentations cover the following topics: global challenges for addressing nonstandard work and worker safety, health and well-being; comprehensive and integrated intervention strategies for preventing chronic health conditions, promoting mental health, and organizing work to prevent fatigue and stress in the workplace; designing safer and healthier work for improved quality of life and productive aging and work; and, case studies on partnering for research and practice, among many others. International presentations will also be featured.
Opening remarks provided on May 8th will include US Surgeon General, VADM Jerome M. Adams, MD, MPH, NIOSH Director Dr. John Howard, MD, and the Director of the NIOSH Office for Total Worker Health ®, L. Casey Chosewood, MD, MPH.
Register now and join us this month to share your input on the future development of a Total Worker Health Workforce, and take part in holistic opportunities to learn, to be physically active, and to eat nutritious meals while on the beautiful NIH campus.
