This award is given each year to an individual who has made a significant contribution in the broad field of industrial and environmental toxicology. This year’s recipient is Dr. Mark D. Hoover, senior research scientist in the Respiratory Health Division of NIOSH and currently serves as co-director of the Center for Direct Reading and Sensor Technologies and coordinator of the NIOSH Exposure Assessment Program. Dr. Hoover will give the Stokinger Lecture: The Importance of Confirming Protection from Risks in All the Places We Live, Learn, Work, and Play on Wednesday, May 23 at 10:15 a.m. in Room 119.
Lila Albin Award
Since 1997, the AIHA® Indoor Environmental Quality Committee has evaluated journal articles and recognized one each year. The article must (a) be peer reviewed and published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, (b) provide practical information and expand the knowledge base of IEQ professionals, (c) address a critical IEQ issue, and (d) present the topic clearly and engagingly. This year’s recipients are Aleksandr B. Stefaniak, PhD, CIH, Ryan F. LeBouf, PhD, CIH, Jinghai Yi, Jason Ham, Timothy Nurkewicz, Diane E. Schwegler-Berry, Bean T. Chen, PhD, J. Abbas Virji, ScD, CIH for “Characterization of Chemical Contaminants Generated by a Desktop Fused Deposition Modeling 3-Dimentional Printer.”
John M. White Award
The John M. White Award was established by the AIHA® Respiratory Protection Committee to encourage scientific and application- oriented research in respiratory protection. This year’s award goes to Tyler M. Brady, Amanda L. Strauch, Claudia M. Almaguer, George Niez, Ronald E. Shaffer, Jr., PhD, Patrick L. Yorio, and Edward M. Fisher for “Transfer of Bacteriophage MS2 and Fluorescein From N95 Filtering Facepiece Respirators to Hands: Measuring Fomite Potential.”
Jeffrey S. Lee Lecture
Established in 1999 by the Foundation for Occupational Health & Safety, the Jeffrey S. Lee Lectureship pays tribute to the late Dr. Lee whose unswerving dedication and immeasurable contributions to occupational health and safety worldwide will long serve as a legacy and an inspiration for those who serve in the profession. Dr. Charles L. Geraci, associate director for emerging technologies, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, will present the 2018 Lee Lecture, entitled “Big Bangs and Black Holes – Past, Present, and Future Opportunities and Challenges for Industrial Hygiene,” on Tuesday, May 22 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 115B-C.
