CDC CVRS – What’s New in Version 3 for Pharmacies & Dialysis Center Partners

Introduction

This page catalogs the changes from version 2.5 to version 3 of the CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Reporting Specification (CVRS). This guidance applies to all submitting entities that were previously using CVRS version 2.5 to submit data to the COVID-19 Data Clearinghouse, including pharmacies and dialysis center partners.

What’s New in Version 3 provides pharmacies and dialysis centers with updated guidance surrounding CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Reporting Specification (CVRS) files. This document catalogs the changes from version 2.5 to version 3 of the CVRS to help submitting entities understand which data fields have been updated. The changes are listed by data field and include a short description of what submitters can expect in the newest version of the CVRS.

Instruction Changes

  • Clarified language around data models in the “Introduction.”
  • Provided instructions on CVRS file naming conventions for additions, updates, and deletes.
  • Updated version number at the bottom of instructions.

Privacy-Preserving Record Linkage (PPRL) Extract Fields Changes

  • The “PPRL Extract Fields” tab is new and contains the specifications for reporting PPRL extracts.
  • The “PPRL Extract Fields” specification contains the same information as the “Redacted Extract Fields” specification, except for the extract type value.

Submitting Entity Codes Changes

  • This tab was removed from the workbook.

Provider Submitter Instructions

  • The “Provider Submitter Instructions” tab is new and provides additional instructions to pharmacy and dialysis center submitting entities for various data fields.
  • This tab replaces the previously separate “Instructions to Pharmacies” document.

Provider Submitter Admin Types

  • The “Provider Submitter Admin Types” tab is new and contains the full list of administration types that pharmacy and dialysis submitters use to populate the “Administered at location: type” data field.
  • This tab replaces the list of “Administered at location: type” options listed in the “Instructions to Pharmacies” document.
