Activity: NIIW Community Outreach
Description: The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will provide immunization education about the importance of childhood immunizations at two Major League Rockies games, in the main lobby at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and via social media. Additionally, we will interview and film the 2015 Colorado Childhood Immunization Champion. This video will be shared statewide within the next few months.

Danbury, CT

Activity: Take Care, Teddy Bear
Description: The Greater Danbury Immunization Action Program, with Danbury Public School: Family Resource Center at Mill Ridge Primary School and the Family Learning Center at Park Lane School, will host an educational event for parents, caregivers and preschool children on the importance of well child visits and keeping up-to-date with childhood vaccines through story and song. Program staff will discuss current immunization topics with caregivers and have educational information to take home.

New Britain, CT

Activity: Childhood Immunization Presentation
Description: The New Britain Health Department, with the New Britain Community Health Center, will host a presentation by the New Britain IAP Coordinator on childhood immunization. Parents will be educated on immunization and will be able to ask questions. This event will be held during the Community Open Playgroup. The event is free. There will be snacks provided by the Family Wellness Center and free giveaways such as baby bibs and children’s books related to immunization. The event will be health at the Community Health Center Family Wellness Center located at 85 Lafayette St.

New Britain, CT

Activity: “Immunization Records Night” at the New Britain Rock Cats
Description: The New Britain Health Department, with the New Britain Rock Cats baseball team, will host an Immunization Records night at the New Britain Rock Cats baseball game. Parents who bring their child’s immunization record to the stadium can have their child’s record reviewed, and receive a free child’s ticket (with the purchase of an adult ticket). A local pediatrician will throw out the first pitch in honor or the event. An immunization information table will be set up with educational materials for parents and caregivers, and PSA’s will be made throughout the evening.

Description: The New Haven Health Department will host an immunization table. Immunization and CIRTS (Connecticut Immunization and Tracking System) material will be distributed. The immunization staff will be on hand to answer questions about immunizations.

Activity: CIRTS/Immunization Record Check
Description: The Norwalk Health Department, with the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, will distribute information regarding the CIRTS (CT Immunization Registry and Tracking System), childhood vaccines, vaccine safety, and whooping cough vaccine in the lobby of the WIC office on the above days. Parents and caregivers can also have their child’s immunization records checked in CIRTS or enroll their child if they have not been already.

Activity: Keeping Your Baby Healthy through Vaccines
Description: The Southwestern AHEC/Bridgeport Immunization Program, with the Bridgeport WIC Offices and under the direction of Southwest Community health Center and Optimus Health Care, will host an event for parents and caregivers that will provide information about childhood vaccines and the CIRTS program (Connecticut vaccine registry) in the WIC waiting rooms. Educational information and fun items for children will be provided. This event is open to all Bridgeport WIC clients and offered in 2 locations.

Description: The Torrington Area Health District, with Early Head Start Playgroups and WIC, will host an immunization information session for parents and caregivers. Description: Emory University will launch https://momvax.org/ to coincide with National Infant Immunization Week. This website will be a repository for work products coming from research within Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health dedicated to improving antenatal (before birth) vaccination as well as an education tool for parents, clinicians and researchers on the topic of antenatal vaccination.

Description: The Louisiana Shots for Tots – Region 4, with Opelousas General Health Systems and Shots for Tots- Louisiana Coalition, will host an evening program for parents and caregivers featuring a viewing of the documentary “The Invisible Threat” on immunization and vaccine preventable diseases. Description: The Gallatin City County Health Department will provide routine child and adult vaccinations. Healthcare professionals will be on-hand to provide information about cervical cancer screening, HPV vaccination and the importance getting immunized with TDAP in the third trimester of pregnancy. Activity: NIIW Legislative Luncheon
Description: The Immunize Nevada will host a luncheon in honor of NIIW. Governor Sandoval has proclaimed April 18th-25th Nevada Infant Immunization Week, to coincide with the annual national observance of National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW). The state and national observance of NIIW highlights the importance of protecting infants from 14 different vaccine-preventable diseases and celebrates the achievements of immunization programs in promoting healthy communities throughout the United States.

Activity: Professional Training – Outbreaks: Re-establishing the Relevancy & Immediacy of Immunizations
Description: Immunize Nevada will host a one-hour webinar for healthcare professionals on the current outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases and the erosion of public support for immunizations. The webinar will explore the national vaccine debate including how we got here, where we are going and how we can best counter the effects of VPDs. The presenter is Daniel P. Activity: State-wide Immunization Conference
Description: The New Hampshire Immunization Program (NHIP), with NH Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies, NH School Nurses Association, NH Medical Society, NH Nurse Practitioners Society, and NH VFC Providers, will kick off NIIW by hosting a state-wide immunization conference for over 400 healthcare professionals. NHIP will be providing resources for both healthcare professionals and parents at and following this event. Throughout April and May, NHIP will be participating in a number of health fairs, child care info sessions, school nurse events, and providers’ trainings where they will distribute NIIW resources. An article about NIIW will be sent to all licensed child care providers in their spring newsletters.

Concord, NJ

Activity: NIIW Immunization Campaign
Description: The Lakewood Resource and Referral Center will focus on boosting immunization rates in their clinic for those children birth through age two years during 2015 NIIW. CHEMED will call patients who are behind schedule to remind them to come in receiving their age-appropriate vaccinations, which a goal of immunizing at least 600 children within this campaign. Both VFC and those with private insurance will be able to be vaccinated. For each child who is vaccinated, a tag will be placed on a mural celebrating the vaccination of all of the children. This mural will be showcased in the CHEMED entrance-way for all to see the importance of childhood immunization. Dr. Tina Tan, State Epidemiologist/Assistant Commissioner, Division of Epidemiology, Environmental and Occupational Health at the New Jersey Department of Health; Jennifer Smith, MPH, CHES, Public Health Educator, New Jersey Department of Health, Vaccine Preventable Disease Program; Daniel E. Regenye, Public Health Coordinator, Ocean County Health Department; CHEMED and LRRC staff will pose for a photo in front of the mural. The photo will be used for a press release to demonstrate CHEMED’s, NJDOH’s, and OCHD’s support of NIIW. The HMO, Amerigroup, will have an exhibit booth at the CHEMED entrance-way to offer free health education materials.

Activity: Frosty Fun
Description: The Lincoln County Health Department, with Wendy’s at TarHeel Capital, will provide immunization information and updates will be available to parents and caregiver. Local Media will be informing parents of vaccine availability and eligibility guidelines for uninsured, underinsured and Medicaid patients to receive FREE vaccine. FREE Frosty coupons will be given to every child that comes in and gets vaccinated that week, courtesy of Wendy’s. Small toothbrush or toy will also be given to these children.

Tulsa, OK

Activity: Be Wise Immunize at the Tulsa Zoo 2015
Description: The Tulsa Area Immunization Coalition, with the local Rotary Clubs, Rotary International, Tulsa City-County Health Department, Oklahoma Caring Foundation, and Tulsa Zoo, will host an immunization event. Enjoy free admission to the Tulsa Zoo for each child immunized AT the event as well as free admission for two accompanying family members. Immunizations will be available for infants and children through 18 years of age. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and bring current immunization record. Tdap vaccine will be available to meet the Oklahoma middle school requirement. Immunizations will be provided at no charge to those who qualify (children covered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, Community Care, Health Choice, Medicaid or SoonerCare coverage, Native American/Native Alaskan, under-insured and uninsured). Please bring proof of insurance.

Activity: National Launch of Music Video and Campaign on Meningitis and Vaccinations
Description: Meningitis Angels will launch a New Music Video for World Meningitis Day and National Infant Immunization Week. April 24th is World Meningitis Day and April 18-25th is National Infant immunization Week. Meningitis Angels is a national non-profit organization which educates the public, healthcare professionals, child care facilities, schools & universities not only on meningitis but other vaccine preventable diseases by sharing their personal stories. Help us to eliminate vaccine preventable meningitis & save lives through education, while at the same time offering support to the victims & their families. Description: The Lehigh Valley Immunization Coalition will distribute 300 bags containing immunization educational materials, sample baby items including books, sippy cups, fever scan thermometers, diapers and wipes to local WIC offices, mother-baby units in local hospitals, health departments, childbirth/parenting classes and local high schools.

Description: The Wilkes University American Pharmacist Association, with the Wilkes-Barre YMCA, will host a Healthy Kids Day. Children will have the opportunity to take on the role of doctor and give vaccinations to teddy bears. Following the activity, parents will be given immunization education packets.

Activity: Childcare Worker Vaccination Clinics
Description: The Rhode Island Department of Health Office of Immunization at HEALTH, with the Wellness Company, East Bay Head Start, South County Head Start, Woonsocket Head Start, Ready to Learn Providence, and Child, Inc., will provide people who work in childcare settings MMR, Varicella, Tdap and Flu vaccines in response to new regulations. The Office of Immunization at HEALTH is working with a community immunizer to offer vaccines at no out-of-pocket cost to childcare workers.

Description: The Rhode Island Department of Health, with Dr. Rick Quiles of Park Pediatrics and Care New England (CNE), will promote a vaccine education video. The video, available in both English and Spanish, has a target audience of young parents. The Rhode Island Department of Health is featuring the video on social media along with Care New England (CNE). In addition, RI Department of Health Equity Connections, Minority Health is featuring Dr. Quiles and the video in this month’s newsletter. Brownwood, TX

Activity: NIIW 2015 Kids Fair
Description: The Brownwood/Brown County Health Department will kids fair in honor of 2015 NIIW. The Kids Fair includes games and prizes, hot dogs, bounce houses, puppet shows and face painting. Information about immunizations and vaccine preventable diseases is provided to parents and guardians, and health department staff is present to answer questions about vaccines. The goal of this event is to promote the importance of vaccinating their children completely and on time within the community. With the measles outbreak and all the controversy about vaccines, accurate information will be provided to the parents of our area so they can make informed decisions about vaccinating their children. In recognition of NIIW, the health department is also having walk in clinics all week and we are also waiving our administration fee for administering TVFC vaccines to all children up to age 3.

Description: Immunize El Paso will host a Lunch and Learn session on Strategies to Address Vaccine Hesitancy for healthcare professionals. The session will review past and current trends in vaccine refusal and review how to address concerns with parents regarding vaccinating their children. The session will feature three speakers from The Immunization Partnership and the Health Authority for El Paso County.

Description: The Texas Department of State Health Services will be available at the local WIC office to answer questions concerning childhood vaccinations for parents. Description: The Gregg County Health Department, will have a booth in the front lobby for parents to come in and pick up information and audit shot records. Immunizations will be available to those who qualify. Those who do not qualify will be provided with information and resources as to where they can have their child vaccinated. Information will also be provided on Immtrac and offer setting patient’s up in the system so that it will be easier for certain providers to access records when needed.
