Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Cost-Effectiveness but Were Afraid of Being Bored
In this presentation, Dr. Harrell Chesson will provide a basic introduction to cost-effectiveness analyses of public health programs and interventions. The presentation will be geared especially to those with little or no formal experience with cost-effectiveness analysis, but who are interested in learning some of the key concepts and its application in public health.
Some of the common questions addressed will include: Why does CDC need economists? How is a cost-effectiveness ratio calculated? What is a quality-adjusted life year (QALY) and how is it measured? What is discounting? What do health economists do besides cost-effectiveness?
