Workplaces and Businesses Toolkit

Who should use this toolkit? Employers and workers.

What is this toolkit about? Preventing the spread of mpox in businesses and workplaces.

How should I use this toolkit? Employers should use this information to prevent the spread of mpox in the workplace. Workers should know the signs and symptoms of mpox, how it spreads, and how to protect themselves and others.

At this time, the risk of mpox spreading in most workplaces is low. Employers and workers can take steps to prevent the spread of mpox in the workplace. CDC recommendations apply to most workplaces. Employers should apply CDC recommendations, like those in the resources below, to maintain healthy business operations.

Employers should provide information about preventing mpox to workers who may have close physical contact with others or handle potentially contaminated objects or materials. Employers should take the following steps to prevent the spread of mpox:

  • Ensure that workers with mpox follow recommended isolation practices
  • Offer telework or flexible, non-punitive sick leave to workers with mpox
  • Work with your state, tribal, local, or territorial health department to identify and monitor the health of workers who might have had close contact with someone who has mpox
  • Remember that, in general, people who have been exposed to mpox do not need to quarantine or be restricted from work if they remain asymptomatic
