As Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Gimson provides leadership and guidance in all areas of management and operations. He is charged with assuring that the CDC/ATSDR systems are efficient, effective, and accountable and conform with the Presidents Management Agenda. Mr. Gimson has identified several key initiatives that his office will focus on including: continuously improving customer service and satisfaction, providing the best value for the taxpayer investment, accountability measured by performance metrics, job satisfaction through workforce development, and striving for innovation in business systems.
He is the principal link to the Department of Health and Human Services, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Congress on management and operations practices, policies, and regulations for an agency with an annual operating budget of $8 billion and 8,500 employees worldwide.
Mr. Gimson brings to this position a depth of experience in financial and program management. He began his career with the federal government in 1974 and was assigned to the Chicago Department of Health as a Public Health Advisor and was subsequently transferred to New York City where he quickly assumed greater responsibility. In 1981, he was appointed the Director of the Immunization Program for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and eventually became an Acting Assistant Secretary for Health. Mr. Gimson briefly held the post of Coordinator of the Immunization Program for New York State before transferring to headquarters in Atlanta to help develop the agencys plan to address chronic diseases.
In 1988, Mr. Gimson was selected as an understudy for the position of Director of the Financial Management Office, CDC/ATSDR. During this period he performed an extensive management review of CDCs Human Resources Management Office, and served as Associate Director for Policy Coordination. He was appointed Director of the Financial Management Office in 1995.
Mr. Gimson received a BA from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and an MBA from Duke University.
