Mallinckrodt Uranium Works
In 1867, Mallinckrodt Chemicals, Inc. began operating and producing metallic oxides and salts, ammonia and organic chemicals. From 1942 to 1957, Mallinckrodt was under contract with the Manhattan Engineer District and the Atomic Energy Commission, to process uranium needed for the development of atomic weapons.1 This led to large-scale uranium production operations.
