‹View Table of Contents
Body mass index (BMI) was calculated for all male Registry participants 2 years of age or older with a valid height and weight, and corresponding weight status was assigned based on age and BMI. Among the male Registry participants between the ages of 2 and 19 years, 20% were obese, compared with 18.5% of the youth in the national population, as reported by the National Center for Health Statistics.1 Among male Registry participants 20 years of age and older, 34% were obese, compared with 19% of the national population. 1
Weight Status by Age and Hemophilia Type
Among male Registry participants with hemophilia A, 3% were underweight, 45% were normal weight, 25% were overweight, and 27% were obese. Proportion of overweight and obesity was higher in participants 20 years of age or older than participants younger than age 20. Among the Registry participants with hemophilia A who were younger than 20 years of age, 17% were overweight and 20% were obese. Among the Registry participants with hemophilia A who were 20 years of age or older, 34% were overweight and 33% were obese. (Table 4).
Among the Registry male participants with hemophilia B, 3% were underweight, 42% were normal weight, 26% were overweight, and 29% were obese, with similar patterns by age, as seen with hemophilia A. Among male Registry participants with hemophilia B who were younger than 20 years of age, 16% were overweight, and 20% were obese. Among the male Registry participants with hemophilia B who were 20 years of age or older, 34% were overweight and 37% were obese. (Table 5).
