NCEZID is working with partners in India to identify sources of outbreaks occurring in neonatal intensive care units and to prevent the spread of antibiotic-resistant pathogens.

Each year nearly 60,000 babies in India die from sepsis related to antibiotic-resistant (AR) infections. NCEZID is sharing its expertise in infection prevention and control and lessons learned from combating AR in US hospitals to stop the spread of these pathogens around the world. Through work supported by CDC’s AR Solutions Initiative, NCEZID is working with partners in India to identify sources of outbreaks occurring in four neonatal intensive care units and using innovative, cost-effective interventions to prevent the spread of AR pathogens, and ultimately save the youngest of lives.
